An Intro to our new Blogger - David Johnson

Who am I? My name is David Johnson.
I’ve lived through many different periods in my life where I’ve gone through a number of deeply addictive cycles, and not just the same ones time and time again.
Life outside the world of being a recovering poly addict, is complex, challenging &incredibly frustrating too. I hate the amount of snide comments & language that people make when talking about People Who Use Substances (PWUS) like they are lessor people not worthy of sharing this spinning rock hurtling through space.

Alert: Incoming Content (Yet Again) This is a follow on from the last post about content coming & is much the same as that one was.
Once again, this is a very quick post to let you know that we (well Ryan as it’s still just Ryan here for now) is in process of actually pulling some content together.
We have (well Ryan has) a plan of content for the next few years & whilst that hasn’t changed, certain circumstances have done and well this then invokes the cumon, time to get 💩 done response, in my mind.

Background Gone are the days where shirts are dull, boring and bland 🥱.
Here comes the rise of the colourful and head turning “did I just see that” thoughts and conversation starters from the 🔗Bad Shirt Club🔗 (previously known as Shit Shirt Club) until Advertising Standards deemed their name unadvertisable, which is utter 💩💩💩💩💩.
I mean just see for yourself with this one, which is one of many.

We have (well Ryan has) a plan of content for the next few years.
Huh, It was off..? So this thing needed a bit of attention. Attention that due to other things I kinda left it to the side whilst I did a rethink on a few things. This lead to projects elsewhere like docTypes and putting some future requirements for all and previous projects for me to implement ADR’s which are know as either a Any Decision Record or an Architecture Decision Record. Which is a way of saying we had a Decision point & this is how we reached it &background info as needed.

TL:DR (To Long Didn’t Read) Water, we are, the flow state, we must become! (in voice of Yoda)
We can freeze, boil or simmer at just the right temperature.
Each of these states can and does affect our mental & physical health differently.
We each have a slightly different optimal Flow State where we feel happiest, enjoy life the most and importantly perform the best we can.
We also have differing and complex dependency trees, all getting upset differently when we aren’t able to stay in our optimal flow state.

This will be a short & opinionated post, and as such should be something that you decide on whether you agree with or not. This will just be about using targeted AI’s for aiding you in understanding and then discussing your Mental Health & not about general use of AI’s. That topic will be covered in a separate post.
Should I use AI to help me write/talk about my Mental Health?

This article is part of the series The Power Of that looks into many aspects of life and how they can be powerful in helping with individual management & maintenance of mental health.
Warning - This is a post about swearing intended to educate, without resorting to use of swearing, even though the author was incredibly tempted to do so
The Power Of Swearing This really should be a short post that, for those of you reading that are against the use of emotive language including swear words, also known as use of profanity, should perhaps read on and have a rethink, and you know perhaps give swearing a go and see how you feel afterwards, as I can tell you now, you’ll feel better for it.

As someone that’s been through many types of pain, and seen many go through their own pains, I can say that it really really does. But pain is a personal journey, that whilst we may be able to sympathise and even empathise with those going through pain, I don’t think we can truly be able to say that we know exactly what a person is going through when they are dealing with, even if we may have gone through similar things to them.

Technology has helped keep many friends, families, schools, organisations & even governments stay connected and be able to function during the COVID19 Pandemic at mostly near pre-pandemic levels & in some cases beyond pre-pandemic levels. However, it is safe to say that even leading up to the pandemic there had been lots to consider about “Finding the Balance” between what is a good amount of technology & what is likely to be a detrimental amount of technology.

As you can likely tell from the title of this post, I am going to go into the detail of what I think is a novel new way to attempt to describe how various states of mental health can and do affect us all differently.
Firstly I think it is important to get across a very simple, but often overlooked point when it comes to mental heath, and that is that mental health is something that we all have, much like the blood in our veins, the air in our lungs or the bacteria in our guts.

I met Ryan at a mental health meet up and was really interested in the idea of mhasl.me as I spend some of my non-work time talking about mental health. I’ve got a podcast (Innerpod.co.uk), and do talks about mental health at meetups and conferences.
Whilst today Feb 7th is #TimeToTalk Day, a day that symbolises the need for people to talk about their Mental Health, this also raises a perhaps unspoken point around the need to write about mental health as much as it does to talk about it.
Writing things down is a really good way of being able to process complex things, like mental health, or a really difficult mathematical equation or even just something that you want to say to someone.
